WiFi

Uses your existing home network. No separate hub needed, which makes it the easiest entry point. Z-Wave

Similar mesh concept to Zigbee but runs on a different frequency band (around 900MHz in the US), which means less interference with WiFi's 2.4GHz band. Fewer device options overall, but the ecosystem is known for very reliable long term performance. Popular for locks, garage door controllers, and other security focused devices where a dropped connection has real consequences.

Matter (Plus Thread)

The newer universal standard, backed by Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung.
